GAME OF THE WEEK - 26/02/2020
SMASH BROS. ULTIMATED
This week's game of the week is Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. So let's a go (as Mario would say!)

Smash Bros. Ultimate was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2018. This game is a beat-'em up game which features a lot of Nintendo characters and different stages, such as Deflino Plaza, and my personal favourite, Saffron City.

There is a whole host of characters that are available that the players can play and also purchase as DLCs such as Banjo and Kazooie, but there are plenty of existing characters as well such as Mario (of course), Pac Man, Kirby and Link. This game is a good example of how DLCs are used to give players more variety in the games that they play.

Geekette's Thoughts: I love playing Smash Bros. Ultimate as it is a good party game that everyone can get involved in playing. Myself and my university friends have spent countless hours sat playing this game in the student bar or before classes have become. Before university, I had never played a Smash Bros. game before, as I have never really been that good at beat-'em up games.

LUIGI'S MANSION 3

Hey all and welcome back to another blog post! This week's game of the week is the new Luigi's Mansion game that was released on the Nintendo Switch on October 31. Let's dive right into it!

Luigi's Mansion is a game series developed by Nintendo that was originally going to be released by on the N64, but was delayed and eventually released on the GameCube in 2001. It spawned a sequel that was released on the 3DS in 2013. The general concept of this game is that Luigi wins something in a competition he never remembers entering (in the first game it was a mansion, in the latest release it is a holiday in a hotel), and Luigi being Luigi goes and accepts the prize.

The latest game follows Luigi, Mario, Peach, and the toads as they go on a holiday to a nice, luxurious hotel, or so they thought! I won't give to much away but the main game is about Luigi fighting some ghosts with the infamous Poltergust and help from a familiar face, Professor E. Gad.

I brought this game on day 1 release and haven' stopped playing it since. I love the concept of the game and the fact that they have so many familiar faces returning such as Professor E. Gad and of course, the Polterpup!

Game of the Week - 09/09/2018

GAME OF THE WEEK 09/09/2018
LEGO HARRY POTTER YEARS 1-4
This week's game of the week is Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4.

A game that truly represented my childhood (sort of). Released in 2011, Lego HP was a game for all HP fans, including myself. I use to have the game on DS many years ago when it was first released, but now own it on my Xbox 360. It was also released on the Wii (I think I have that copy lying around somewhere), PS3, iOS, Android, PSP, Mac OS X and Windows. A revamped version of the game was released on PS4 called Lego Harry Potter: The Collection. It is soon coming to Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.



The aim of this game is like any other Lego game. You run around shooting bad guys and collecting the studs. What's not to like? The only difference is that in this game you attend classes like Charms and Potions, and you earn new spells and other abilities that can be used against the bad guys.

My favourite part of this game is that the cutscenes are still priceless. I know majority of people do not like the classic Lego cutscenes with no talking in as they are annoying, but for myself, as long as I could remember, I played the Lego games with no talking in the cutscenes. This is why I always have and will find them funny.

GAME OF THE WEEK - 29/08/2018
STAR WARS: FORCE UNLEASHED
Today brings you the game of the week! This week's game of the week is the game, Star Wars: Force Unleashed.



This game was released in 2008 and it is an action-adventure game. You may be wondering why is this the game of the week and not retro game of the week? Well that is because the game itself was released on Xbox 360, which still has games which are currently being produced.

The plot of the game is that you take on the role of Starkiller, Darth Vader's secret apprentice. The main character is usually sent in to undertake missions which have been set by Vader. Vader's only concern is that he has to keep Starkiller a secret from the Emperor. This is because Vader wants Starkiller to help him kill the Emperor.

What I like about this game is that there is an option to choose between the light and dark side right at the end of the game. I like this because it allows you to choose the side that you love the most (the light side will always be my favourite).

GAME OF THE WEEK - 01/06/18
HARRY POTTER: HOGWARTS MYSTERY
Yes people, I am back with your next blogpost and this week's game of the week is a mobile game which got released a couple of months ago. This is Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.

This game has been published by Jam City and Portkey games and was released on iOS and Android phones on the 25th April 2018 (the UK game anyway). This is a game that has been anticipated by all that has wanted to play it and are Harry Potter fans.

The game itself is set before Harry's time at Hogwarts but after he defeats Voldemort for the first time (as a baby). You play the main character who has just been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The character meets some familiar faces along the way like Dumbledore and Snape (eugh) as well as some new ones.

What I love about this game is that it is very user controlled. You get attribute points such as Courage, Bravery and Knowledge. These level up as well as your character level and school year. So far they have released chapters up until the end of Year 3.

I'm not showing much for this game because I am adding a new segment to my blog and it is walkthroughs. Hogwarts Mystery will be one of my first walkthrough games but there will be more in the future.

Game of the Week - 21/05/18

GAME OF THE WEEK - 21/05/18
BATTLEFIELD 1
This week's game of the week is Battlefield 1, which was released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Battlefield 1 is a first-person shooter game which was released in October 2016.

Battlefield 1 contains both a single player campaign and multiplayer mode. The single player campaign contains 6 different chapters who are all based on 6 different characters. One of these chapters is titled 'Through Mud and Blood'. This is based on an English tanker fighting with his team on a tank called 'Bessie'. This is definitely one of the hardest levels on the game and I was playing on beginner.

The Multiplayer modes are similar to the ones that you would find on the later Call of Duty games, with there being modes such as Conquest (one of the generic modes on every Battlefield game) and Air Assault. Air Assault is like the old dogfighter games in which the player controls one of the planes and everytime an opposing enemy has been destroyed the opposing team gains a point.

Personally, I have not played any of the Multiplayer Modes due to not having Xbox Gold membership, but I have played the single player campaign mode. Overall, I love the graphics of the game as it is so finely done and it is constantly being updated to suit the player's needs. However, it does take a lot of space up on the console's hard drive.

Game of the Week - 15/05/18

GAME OF THE WEEK - 15/05/18
HALO - THE MASTER CHIEF COLLECTION
Halo is one of my favourite games ever. Not to mention that it is also on one of my favourite consoles, the Xbox. This game is unusual because it does classify as my favourite game. It is more my favourite game series.



Halo: The Master Chief Collection is the compilation of the infamous Halo Series. The game itself was released on the Xbox One on November 11th 2014. The game consists of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4, which were all released on the earlier Xbox Consoles.

The games are all first-person shooters, which are all set in the future with the main character being the Master Chief. The first two games in the series allowed the players to switch between the original game's graphics or the remastered game's graphics.


The idea initially started as a remastered version of Halo 2 to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary. 343 industries (the company that created the Halo games) thought that it would be a good idea to release this game in preparation for the release of Halo 5: Guardians.

When it came to the game's release it has sold around 5-6 million copies. To boost the sales, 343 industries thought of releasing Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta with the game, but only for a certain time.

Personally, I love this game as I love the Halo series. But the real question is: What is the best Halo game? Who knows? As for me, I'm working on getting past the first level. I am giving this game four out of five. The only downside is the constant updates that it needs.

LEGO DIMENSIONS
It's that time of week again when we look at this week's game of the week. This week it is one of my all time favourites, Lego Dimensions.

Originally released in September 2015 on the PlayStation (3&4), Xbox (360 and One) and Wii U, the concept of Lego Dimensions follows the same method as Skylanders and Disney Infinity. The player collects different figures that can be brought to life on the game's portal of power. The aim of the game is to stop the villain, Lord Vortech from controlling the Lego Multiverse.

The main characters of the series are Batman, Wyldstyle and Gandalf, as they come with the starter pack, as well as the Batmobile. However, there is the opportunity to add extra characters to the games. To include these characters, you can either by a fun pack, story pack, level pack or a team pack.

The most basic pack is a fun pack which includes a vehicle and a character. The next level is a team pack which includes two characters and a combination of vehicles and gadgets. The level above is a level pack, which adds a new level and has a character with two items. The last level is a story pack. This adds six new levels and either one or two characters, a vehicle or gadget and a new gateway for the portal.

My favourite character for the game is the Niffler, but I also like Scooby Doo's character. Unfortunately, in October 2017, Warner Bros announced that they were discontinuing the Dimensions range. So until next time,

Game of the Week - 16/11/17

GAME OF THE WEEK - 16/11/17
ASSASSIN'S CREED
Ok, first things first, when I say I'll have Game of the Week and Retro Game of the Week they are two separate things. Game of the Week will cover everything that is on a console that has been released and is still being produced. This can be games for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PS Vita, 3DS and PC. Retro Game of the Week covers everything else.

Now that's over with, the fun part! Assassin's Creed is a action-adventure game set in the Third Crusade. As a player, you would take the role of an assassin of the brotherhood and you have to assassinate major fictional characters. The game switches between the modern day and the Third Crusade.

Another major part of this game is that you have to be stealth when completing these missions. If you fail to be stealth enough then your wanted levels rise and you have to blend in or hide.

The game itself was released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on the 13th of November 2007. It also got good reviews and write ups from various magazines. Assassin's Creed then went off and spanned a further 10 games as a part of the main series, with others as a spin off and a movie, which was released in 2016.

Personally, I love this game as I enjoy the storyline of the game. There are also many side quests which I love in a game as it keeps me entertained. The main bit that I struggled with is the stealth moments as being stealth is not my strong point.
