GAME OF THE WEEK - 21/05/18
BATTLEFIELD 1
This week's game of the week is Battlefield 1, which was released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Battlefield 1 is a first-person shooter game which was released in October 2016.
Battlefield 1 contains both a single player campaign and multiplayer mode. The single player campaign contains 6 different chapters who are all based on 6 different characters. One of these chapters is titled 'Through Mud and Blood'. This is based on an English tanker fighting with his team on a tank called 'Bessie'. This is definitely one of the hardest levels on the game and I was playing on beginner.
The Multiplayer modes are similar to the ones that you would find on the later Call of Duty games, with there being modes such as Conquest (one of the generic modes on every Battlefield game) and Air Assault. Air Assault is like the old dogfighter games in which the player controls one of the planes and everytime an opposing enemy has been destroyed the opposing team gains a point.
Personally, I have not played any of the Multiplayer Modes due to not having Xbox Gold membership, but I have played the single player campaign mode. Overall, I love the graphics of the game as it is so finely done and it is constantly being updated to suit the player's needs. However, it does take a lot of space up on the console's hard drive.

RETRO GAME OF THE WEEK - 16/05/18
PROFESSOR LAYTON AND THE CURIOUS VILLAGE
Hey everyone and welcome to this weeks Retro Game of the Week. This week we will be looking at Professor Layton and the Curious Village, a DS game which was released for the Nintendo DS.
The story of Professor Layton and the Curious Village is that Professor Layton and his apprentice Luke travel to the village of St. Mystere. They recieve a letter from the recently deceased Baron asking them to search from the Golden Apple. But they are not the only ones who are looking for the Golden Apple.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village is a puzzle-adventure game that was released in Europe in 2008 for the Nintendo DS and in Japan in 2008 for mobile devices. This was the first game released for the Professor Layton series. The game sold over 3.17 million copies overseas (not including Japan).
One of the puzzles that I remember is the fox and chicken. In order to complete this puzzle you have to move the foxes and chickens to the other side of the river. But you could not leave one chicken on their own because the fox will eat them (if there is one more fox).
This game means a lot to me as it was one of the first DS games that I owned. The hardest part of this game was the different puzzles, which got harder as the game went on. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who likes puzzle games.
So that's it for today and my next article will be a review of a new game. If anyone has any other ideas on what can be included in my blogs please feel free to let me know.
Until next time,
Peace Out - Geekette

GAME OF THE WEEK - 15/05/18
HALO - THE MASTER CHIEF COLLECTION
Halo is one of my favourite games ever. Not to mention that it is also on one of my favourite consoles, the Xbox. This game is unusual because it does classify as my favourite game. It is more my favourite game series.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is the compilation of the infamous Halo Series. The game itself was released on the Xbox One on November 11th 2014. The game consists of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4, which were all released on the earlier Xbox Consoles.
The games are all first-person shooters, which are all set in the future with the main character being the Master Chief. The first two games in the series allowed the players to switch between the original game's graphics or the remastered game's graphics.
The idea initially started as a remastered version of Halo 2 to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary. 343 industries (the company that created the Halo games) thought that it would be a good idea to release this game in preparation for the release of Halo 5: Guardians.
When it came to the game's release it has sold around 5-6 million copies. To boost the sales, 343 industries thought of releasing Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta with the game, but only for a certain time.
Personally, I love this game as I love the Halo series. But the real question is: What is the best Halo game? Who knows? As for me, I'm working on getting past the first level. I am giving this game four out of five. The only downside is the constant updates that it needs.
So until next time, where we will be looking at our retro game of the week.

Retro Console of May
Yes, I'm back everyone. After a long break due to college and work, I'm back and to kick things off, I'm starting things off with Retro Console of May.
RETRO CONSOLE OF MAY... GAME GEAR
This month's Retro Console goes to the underrated Sega Game Gear!
The Game Gear was released in October 1990 by the games company Sega. The Game Gear was rushed to the games market and it's primary competitors were the Nintendo Gameboy and Atari Lynx. One reason why the Game Gear did so well was that it had a unique game library which many users loved. However, it's short battery life was a major downfall for the console.
The Game Gear was originally known as 'Project Mercury' and when it actually came to being released, it was being sold for £99.99 in Europe. The game that came with the console was a game called Columns which was a version of the Nintendo game, Tetris.
One benefit of the Game Gear is that it was one of the first handheld consoles which uses colours. The Sega Game Gear used around 4000 colours. The idea of the Game Gear was that it was able to port over to the Sega Master System (the home console which was out at the same time). However, the Game Gear only lasted 5-6 hours (with 6 AA batteries) whereas the Game Boy (it's main competitor) lasted up to 30 hours (with 4 AA batteries).
The most popular game for the Game Gear was Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic is Sega's mascot and his game for the Game Gear was released 1991. This version of Sonic the Hedgehog is the simplified version of the Sega Genesis console game. The game itself sold 15 million copies (Genesis and Mega Drive versions included).
I had one of these consoles when I was younger (fully functioning unlike now) and personally, I loved it. One of my all time favourite games for the Game Gear was Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Gaiden was a game released in 1991 for the Game Gear. The main style for this game was a platform jumping game. Even though I was a bit too young to understand the game, it was fun enough to play.
Sadly, the Game Gear was discontinued in 1996. But fear not! Nintendo announced in 2011 that some of their eShops on the Nintendo 3DS would have some Game Gear games on them, available for download.
So that does it for today, so until next time...
