Game of the Week - 20/11/17

GAME OF THE WEEK - 20/11/17
LEGO DIMENSIONS
It's that time of week again when we look at this week's game of the week. This week it is one of my all time favourites, Lego Dimensions.
Lego Dimensions PS4 Box Cover.jpg
Originally released in September 2015 on the PlayStation (3&4), Xbox (360 and One) and Wii U, the concept of Lego Dimensions follows the same method as Skylanders and Disney Infinity. The player collects different figures that can be brought to life on the game's portal of power. The aim of the game is to stop the villain, Lord Vortech from controlling the Lego Multiverse.

The main characters of the series are Batman, Wyldstyle and Gandalf, as they come with the starter pack, as well as the Batmobile. However, there is the opportunity to add extra characters to the games. To include these characters, you can either by a fun pack, story pack, level pack or a team pack.

The most basic pack is a fun pack which includes a vehicle and a character. The next level is a team pack which includes two characters and a combination of vehicles and gadgets. The level above is a level pack, which adds a new level and has a character with two items. The last level is a story pack. This adds six new levels and either one or two characters, a vehicle or gadget and a new gateway for the portal.

My favourite character for the game is the Niffler, but I also like Scooby Doo's character. Unfortunately, in October 2017, Warner Bros announced that they were discontinuing the Dimensions range. So until next time,

Review of a new game - Star Wars Battlefront II

REVIEW OF A NEW GAME
STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II
It's that time again when we get to look at a new game that is out, and this game only got released yesterday (17/11/2017). I am talking about the brand new Star Wars Battlefront II.

As a homage to the original series of battlefront games, the new series is also based on the latest trilogy and the new anthology films.

The new battlefront game was released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Unlike the other battlefront game that was released in 2015, this version has a new campaign mode. This campaign mode allows you to play as a commander in the Imperial Army. The campaign mode is set in between the events of the Return of the Jedi and the Force Awakens.

The best part of the new game is that it has got more maps on offer than the first game of the series did. The new maps include Naboo, D'Qar (the base of the resistance) and Crait (a planet from the new movie, The Last Jedi).

This game has been getting good write ups and I cannot wait to play it properly. So until next time,

Retro Game of the Week - 17/11/17

RETRO GAME OF THE WEEK - 17/11/17
POKEMON RED/BLUE
This weeks retro game of the week is Pokemon Red/Blue. Pokemon was a game that was designed by Nintendo. The main aim of any Pokemon game is that the player can chose from one of three Pokemon to start of with and then they go and battle other trainers or wild Pokemon.

A Pokemon is a creature in a fictional world that the player has to try and find and collect. Pokemon Red/Blue was the first installment of the game series. Today, the Pokemon series has 17 games in total. It was released on the GameBoy.

Pokemon Red/Blue was released in the UK on June 10th 1999. When Pokemon Red/Blue was released in Japan, it was originally Pokemon Red/Green with Blue coming later. In 1997, it had sold at least 3.56 million copies in the UK, 9.58 million copies in the US and 10.4 million copies in Japan.

My favourite Pokemon from this game has to be Squirtle. I mean he is too cute to resist. The only bit that I found hard were all of the battles once you reached a higher level.

That's it for today, so until next time

Game of the Week - 16/11/17

GAME OF THE WEEK - 16/11/17
ASSASSIN'S CREED
Ok, first things first, when I say I'll have Game of the Week and Retro Game of the Week they are two separate things. Game of the Week will cover everything that is on a console that has been released and is still being produced. This can be games for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PS Vita, 3DS and PC. Retro Game of the Week covers everything else.

Now that's over with, the fun part! Assassin's Creed is a action-adventure game set in the Third Crusade. As a player, you would take the role of an assassin of the brotherhood and you have to assassinate major fictional characters. The game switches between the modern day and the Third Crusade.

Another major part of this game is that you have to be stealth when completing these missions. If you fail to be stealth enough then your wanted levels rise and you have to blend in or hide.

The game itself was released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on the 13th of November 2007. It also got good reviews and write ups from various magazines. Assassin's Creed then went off and spanned a further 10 games as a part of the main series, with others as a spin off and a movie, which was released in 2016.

Personally, I love this game as I enjoy the storyline of the game. There are also many side quests which I love in a game as it keeps me entertained. The main bit that I struggled with is the stealth moments as being stealth is not my strong point.

That does it for today. Hope that you guys can read the next post. So until next time,

Retro Console of November

RETRO CONSOLE OF NOVEMBER... PLAYSTATION
Yes that's right, this month's retro console is Sony's Original PlayStation. So let's dive into this.

The PlayStation was originally released by Sony on the 3rd of December in 1994. Originally, the PlayStation was a joint venture between Sony and Nintendo, which would have a SNES port, so the user could play SNES games on the PlayStation. However, in 1993, Nintendo and Sony ended their relationship and the PlayStation also was known as the PSX when they announced the end of the business partnership.

The PlayStation was released on the 3rd of December in 1994 in Japan and almost a year later, on the 9th of September 1995 in North America. Europe did not get the console until the 29th of September 1995. In Japan alone, the PlayStation sold 2 million units within the first six months of it being on sale.

The PlayStation was seen as huge success. A slim line version of the console was released and it was known as the PS One. The main competitors of the PlayStation was the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Saturn.

The PlayStation did not originally have dual analogue sticks, that was introduced in 1997. This allowed the PlayStation to work with PS2 games when it got released. This was known as backwards compatibility. It was the allowance of playing PlayStation games on the PS2.

The best-selling game on the PlayStation is Gran Turismo. This was a racing game that was released in 1997/98. It was created with 3D graphics and it was seen as revolutionary. There were two modes to this game, arcade and simulation. The simulation mode was seen as a career mode and the aim was to earn credits and to get different drivers licenses. The arcade mode allowed the user to select the level that they wanted to play and the vehicle that they drive.

The PlayStation was discontinued on the 31st of March on 2005.

I personally loved the PlayStation as it was always one of my favourite consoles to play on. My favourite game that was on the PlayStation was Medal of Honor. This was a first person set in WW2 about being a US spy in Nazi Germany.

Stay tuned for more updates!
